ADX

Modified on Thu, 28 Aug at 3:26 AM

The ADX (Average Directional Index) is a technical analysis indicator developed by J. Welles Wilder that measures the strength of an ongoing trend, regardless of its direction (bullish or bearish).

Components of the ADX

The’ADX is often represented with two other lines, which complement the’indicator and help to identify the direction of the trend:

  1. Line +DI (Positive Directional Indicator): Measures buying pressure, thus providing information on the strength of bullish movements.
  2. The -DI Line (Negative Directional Indicator): Measures selling pressure, then provides information on the strength of bearish movements.

The’ADX è the average of the differential between the +DI and -DI lines, without taking into account the direction (only the strength).
