Cumulative Delta

Modified on Thu, 28 Aug at 3:28 AM

VolSys Cumulative Delta indicator allows the user to visualize through bars or a line at the foot of the chart, the cumulative delta summation of each candle's delta, i.e., the difference between sell market and buy market, allowing the user to identify which side of the market is more aggressive.

Settings-of-Use

Clicking on the indicator settings icon will open its configuration window, within which you will be able to make several choices regarding the functionality of the indicator itself.

  • Parameters

  • Database

Defines which database to use to calculate the indicator, specifically you can choose from:

1. Volumes

Indicate the quantities of contracts/shares traded,

2. Trades

Indicate the number of trades,

In other words, Trades indicate how often a financial instrument is traded, while Volumes indicate how much of the financial instrument is traded.

For example, an increase in the number of Trades without a corresponding increase in Volumes indicates that there is frequent activity but on small amounts. Conversely, an increase in Volumes without a corresponding increase in the number of Trades indicates that few traders are moving large quantities.

  • Filter-min

Allows you to apply a minimum filter to the indicator;

  • Filter max

Lets you apply a maximum filter to the indicator, if the value 0 is left the indicator will not append any maximum filter;

  • Restore-to-start-session

If enabled, it allows you to restart with the cumulative delta calculation every session start.

  • Series

In this section you can define the colors of the indicator; the style of the series, choosing between Bars and Line; the style of the line, choosing between Solid and Hatch; the thickness of the line.

You can also show the name and value of the indicator as well as enter a custom name.

By default, the indicator will show green bars if the cumulative delta is positive, indicating a prevalence of buy market over sell market, red bars if cumulative delta is negative, indicating a prevalence of sell market compared to buy market.

In the image below, two indicators Comulative Delta have been added in the same Horizontal Area Chart.

The former uses a Volumes and series style at Bars, the latter uses a Trades and series style at Line.
